"I was featured on this blog by certified life coach and career coach Drew Carey in Indianapolis!"

This is from Drew Carey's blog.  He is a life coach in Indianapolis, Indiana.
-------
This blog has veered from its original intent to spotlight inspirational people who followed their inner wisdom to great success. I started writing about my own interests which have moved toward career coaching as my life coaching practice has evolved. Now the people who inspire me are those who left their jobs in corporate America to do what they love.

My latest inspiraton is Christine Byer, owner of Christine Byer Esthetics. I met her at church. She has an adorable daughter named Cici who brings smiles to everyone's face at the church! We finally officially met at the Easter Sunday service this year and made a date to meet for coffee a few weeks ago. In keeping with trying to support local coffeehouses, we decided to meet at Perk Up in Broad Ripple.  Part of me doens't want it to get busy because it's such a lovely oasis for me during the day. But it's a great place with amazing coffee!

Christine told me about how she had worked in her early career in sales and marketing for several companies in Texas and Florida. Like many of us, she wondered if there could be more to her life than her career was offering to her.  She graduated from Indiana University and was surprised to find herself considering beauty school for a new career.  She remembers being the "Groomer" in her family that included 5 sisters.  She was in charge of hair and makeup and many other chores to make her family look their best.

Flash forward 15 years later and Christine is now a master esthetician and considered an industry leader in many skincare modalities, including photorejuvenation and microcurrent technology. She explained how microcurrent works to me so well that even I want to get a treatment! She places electrodes on designated areas on the face and neck based on each client's unique facial characteristics.  A small electrical current is given so that the muscles of the face are strengthened. It also increases the production of collagen and elastin.  This can reduce the appearance of wrinkles.  She calls it personal training for the face!
Her advice to anyone considering a career change? "I would say, not to be trite or cheesy, but follow your heart because that's where your passion is. Not all days in your new field of choice will be rosy. It's passion that carries you through. Many months into my new career, I made lots of mistakes (going out on my own too soon, choosing bad business partners, not marketing enough in person, etc.) but it was my love of esthetics and all things skincare that helped me get up in the morning and find my next client. I say, do your research, tap into your passion and go for it!"
To learn more about Christine and her business, visit her web site at https://christinebyer.com/.  Her number is 317-562-0222.

Thank you, Christine, for being an inspiration to my clients and everyone who wonders if they can have a life of passion and meaning by embarking on a new career.

Radio Frequency Skin Tightening

Did you know?
Deeply heating the skin with Radio Frequency waves causes skin tightening and is the gold standard for nonsurgical facelifting

When Thermage came out with their original radio frequency (RF) skin tightening machine over ten years ago, it was a tremendous success. Since then, many other manufacturers have come out with different variations of RF technology with varying results.  I have found that combining Fractional RF (explained below) with LED and Microcurrent makes for a fantastic, no downtime, photo-ready face that stays plump and lifted longer. In fact, it's such a terrific combo that I have it on sale until July 31st.  Purchase a microcurrent, LED and RF treatment for only $175. You save $50!
If you want supple, lifted and hydrated skin, contact me for relaxing yet effective treatments.  Call or text now to book an appointment (317) 562-0222 or book online.

Have you tried...?
Fractional Radio Frequency

Fractional RF treatments are relaxing and effective.  While regular RF is painful and usually requires a dental anesthesia block for client comfort, fractionated RF is not painful. You only feel a slight heating sensation on your skin. With regular RF, you feel the full blast of heat from the treatment head, because deep heat is required to get collagen contraction and thus renewal. Fractionated RF's treatment head has an array of 96 holes in it so the full impact of the heat is not felt, but the skin still gets a full treatment.  The results?  Lifted, plump, tighter skin with less wrinkles without the pain.

What you're saying...
“I had my first treatment with Christine this past week. It was the best facial I‘ve ever had! My skin looked wonderful afterward. I definitely plan to continue treatments with Christine. She is very knowledgeable and tailors her treatments to each person’s individual skin care needs."

How to Relieve Dry, Itchy Winter Skin

If you're like me, your skin has been feeling pretty dry lately. Cold weather and dry heat form the perfect recipe for dry, itchy winter skin. Here are some tips to help keep you skin moist, comfortable and fresh looking this winter.
1. Take warm, not hot showers. Your skin and your hair will thank you. I know on a cold morning, there is nothing more satisfying than a hot shower. However, this is one of the worst things you can do for dry skin. Water that is too hot only makes skin feel more dry and itchy. Hot water also makes your hair look dull and dry.

2. Get a humidifier. Heating systems in homes and offices dry out the air while they keep us warm. This causes dry skin for most people (and pets!) A humidifier can help bring back healthy moisture levels.

3. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! It helps heal dry skin and keep it feeling comfortable. The best time to apply moisturizer is right after a shower, while your skin is still moist.

4. Drink a lot of water--it's important in all seasons and helps keep us healthy. In the winter, the water you drink contributes valuable moisture to your skin. You may find that if you drink six to eight glasses of water a day, your skin isn't nearly as dry as it used to be.

5. Add healthy fats to your diet. Olive oil, avocado, flaxseed, fatty fish (salmon especially) and nuts are all good sources. You can also take fish oil supplements. (Put fish oil capsules in the freezer so you don't burp them up later!)

What a Master Skincare Therapist does to Perk up Tired Skin...

Why that expensive cream won't erase ALL your wrinkles...(or what's my two-pronged approach to anti-aging skincare)

Many of us dream of a one-stop miracle cream that will take care of all our skin woes. As much as I wish this existed the truth is no cream will fix those wrinkles caused by forceful or sagging muscles underneath the skin. (There are some that claim a Botox-like effect, but so far I am not impressed!)

Let me explain why a cream can't cure all facial wrinkles past, say age 30. Facial muscles act differently that other muscles in our body. Body/skeletal muscles often are matched in pairs that have opposite actions. For example, the abductor and adductor muscles of the arm move the arm away from and towards the torso, respectively, and other pairs of muscles flex and extend the arm or leg.

Facial muscles of expression do not have such an arrangement. Instead, the facial muscles often have no oppositional muscles and the facial tissue they affect returns to a resting state because the tissue resists deformation (or turgor). When muscles produce opposite facial appearances (e.g., raising versus lowering the lip corners), they do not have the oppositional arrangement typical of skeletal muscles, but instead attach to different bones or tissues.
Translation: as your skin ages, it's ability to stabilize the muscle, or bounce back from a facial expression gets less and less. AND you get ...wrinkles!
So what do I do about this? Two things: Microcurrent and facial exercises, in ADDITION to all those fun, amazing, sometimes expensive skincare creams. Microcurrent is explained in detail here. The facial exercises I do are mostly for my neck and chin area. Please email support@christinebyer.com or call me 512 562-0222 for an appointment.

Why are Lash Extensions so Popular?

Yesterday, I volunteered to be a model for a friend who does lash extensions. Well, I'm not sure why she needed a model because her work is already top notch!

Before getting lash extensions I thought "I'd never do that! False lashes hurt my eyes, and I don't want to look like a stripper!" UNTRUE and UNTRUE! I can't even feel these lashes. And I look so natural that it took a few minutes for my hubby to notice. (He can't help it, he's a guy!)

Want to see the RESULTS?

Ta daaaa:

(Please forgive the harsh lighting and day old makeup! Taken at 11pm.)

And the best part? NO MAKEUP! No mascara nor any eye makeup is necessary now. I just put on concealer, blush and lipstick and I'm out the door! NOW I understand why people love these so much! YOU will too. Call Kristen Ekberg at Vanity Rocks, she'll rock out your lashes to incredible but believable lengths. 512 258-0009 http://www.vanityrocks.com/

Have you ever tried...Vitamins - in your sunscreen
A small but impossible to ignore study done on the side effects of sunscreen determined that the top chemicals used in sunscreens actually CAUSE oxidative stress (free radicals = bad) on the skin when exposed to UV.

What did the top professional lines do about this? They included VITAMINS in their formulas to conteract/squelch free radical activity. One of my favorite lines of sunscreen for this reason is by Dermalogica. Check out any of their quality sunscreens: http://www.dermalogica.com/

Did you know...Where your face breaks out says alot about the health of your body

While performing a facial on a coworker this week I noticed a distinct pattern of breakouts on his lower cheeks. Intuitively I asked him, "Do you smoke?" although I'd never seen him smoke nor did he smell of it. He said no, the breakouts were from drinking alcohol over the weekend. Later, as we were leaving the salon I saw my coworker from a distance tilt his head and LIGHT a CIGARETTE! I knew it! His face couldn't lie.

Chinese facial diagnosis is an interesting skill I've honed over the years. It is very helpful when approaching clients new and old. I can tell if they don't drink enough water (under the eyes=kidneys), are constipated (parts of chin=digestion), have hemorrhoids (cleft in chin), or are midcycle (ovaries = side of mouth). The list goes on and on.

Here's a map to have some fun with your friends.

Have you ever tried...Dermarolling

Some of my twitter friends are freaked out just by looking at the dermaroller, A.K.A. the medieval torture device. I pay no mind. The results are the best I've seen from any skincare gadget I've encountered in ten years, and it costs UNDER $100. So if you are in need of a serious anti-aging overhaul but think you can't afford it, think again!
